TREND FALL 2017: VELVET VIBES

The noble feel of velvet was captured in the Fall 2017 collections among various designers who are bringing a come back to the mystic look.

Altuzarra took a darker approach to the feminine mystic while Erdem went for more of a pastel tone, contrasting the heavy appearance of velvet. While Monse went for an even brighter color palette. Velvet was seen as head-to-toe looks and as accents on jackets, gloves, shoes, and handbags.

FASHION TREND FALL 2017: SHEER GENIUS

The sheer trend appeared numerous times during Fall 2017. This timeless transparent trend is back and revitalized by almost every major designer. From sensual drapery to delicate patterns, each designer takes their own approach to achieve sheer genius.

Calvin Klein took a casual approach to the trend by incorporating knits to sheer tops and pairing it with business casual skirts. Chloè kept it simple with sheer slips. Fendi used this trend by creating elegant silhouettes and delicate details.  Gucci used sheerness in a unique way. They thought out of the box by not only using it for shirts and dresses, but as pants and over head. Each designer’s collections had a distinctive look with the incorporation of this translucent fabric, leaving us wanting to see more sheer next season.

DOLCE & GABBANA FALL 2017 AD CAMPAIGN

Closing public streets for a photo shoot? Dolce & Gabbana wouldn’t dare.

Instead D&G models run rampant through the sidewalks and markets of the Italian town Palermo for the new Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2017 campaign. Civilians don’t shy away either, often being included in the shots linking arms and posing alongside high profile models like internet star Cameron Dallas and Princess Olympia of Greece. The busy and outgoing shoot is right on point with Dolce & Gabanna’s classic message of familia shown through authentic Italian scenes. However, this time the Milan-based fashion house seems to be more inclusive in their model selection with different sizes and skin colors represented in the shoot, and The Impression applauds the progressive move forward.

RIHANNA FENTY X PUMMA FALL 2017 RTW

Rihanna was no goody-two-shoes as a teenager. True to her infamous moniker, the singer was sent home from high school on several occasions for breaking the strict dress code, bringing a rebellious edge to her dull khaki uniform with wild, brightly colored hairstyles and piercings galore. She used her Fenty x Puma show in Paris as a way to rewrite the rule book on collegiate style, and staged the presentation in the elegant book-lined atrium of the Richelieu-Louvois Library.

ZIMMERMANN’S SPRING 2017 AD CAMPAIGN

DIY meets Eighties femininity in Nicky Zimmermann’s romantic spring 2017.Gone are the days of DIY for Nicky Zimmermann — as her brand has become a cult favorite with vintage- and beach-loving girls worldwide — and yet that didn’t stop her from taking her spring collection on a reminiscent journey back to Stranded, her and her friends’ club of choice in Sydney, Australia in the Eighties. “It’s kind of my take on the Eighties, because where I grew up was kind of isolated to the subcultures that were happening — it was a bit more parody,” she explained. In her show notes, she offered details: “We made everything ourselves; it was more about expressing yourself. We ripped up tutus, we stole dad’s shirts, found old pieces of lace. We tied, we tattered, tangled and frayed.”

What’s regularly remarkable about Zimmermann is the brand’s ability to produce high-quality, intricate workmanship while retailing at a sub-designer price point. One piece, a white lace and purply floral menagerie of wraps and tiers (essentially a souped-up prairie dress), was especially striking in terms of its construction. It also featured an off-the-shoulder element, which is proving to be quite trendy in the early stages of NYFW.

WOULD YOU BET IT IS PARIS?

When an interior designer decorates her own home in Paris, the result is always as peculiar as personal. The most fashionable decorator in France, Emilie Bonaventure, showed us in her Parisian flat.

Emilie Bonaventure – founder of the be-attitude agency in 2005 – is all that and her projects prove it to perfection. She is an interior architect, designer, decorator and contemporary art expert, passionate about fashion and gastronomy.

Located in the 9th arrondissement, on the famous street des Martyrs in the district of Montmartre, Emilie Bonaventure’s apartment is his personal refuge but until recently it was also his office. Here, she used to work with her team, particularly in the dining room where the Rose Bakery Team Room concept was born, for example, in the Le Bon Marché store. Today Emilie has an office outside her house, just a few meters from her bright and typically Parisian apartment that has a wooden floor, moldings and fireplaces.

Emilie studied art history at the school of the Louvre and the decor of her home reflects her taste for discipline and especially for objects. “An object is a part of itself, a piece of its own puzzle,” he says. Each element of his apartment tells a story and many were found in the flea market of Saint-Ouen (on the outskirts of Paris). Furniture from the 40s, 50s and 60s coexist with contemporary works of art.

In general, Emilie designs colorful creations with many contrasts. On the contrary, it privileged in its home the neutral tones like the Wimborne White of Farrow & Ball that is combined with some brown and black touches. In the room, he chose pieces from different periods – such as Geoffrey Harcourt’s chair and the neon work of the artist Eric Michel – but with the same types of colors. In the dining room where the table is by Angelo Mangiarotti, the chairs are from the 50’s and the brass lamp dates from the 70’s, the David Hicks wallpaper for Au Fil des Couleurs stands out.

Totally black and gray, the kitchen adorned with works by Pierre Soulages is one of the key spaces. Emilie loves to cook, a passion that was born from her childhood, because her parents own restaurants. “When I was eight, I was fortunate enough to eat with chef Marc Veyrat. I never forgot this experience. The mixture of curiosity, imagination, creativity and professionalism that characterizes it has become a true example for me, a way of thinking. ”

The chromatic palette of the bedroom refers to the living room and provides a peaceful feeling. Interested in people in their everyday universe and their relationship with objects in their environment, Emilie Bonaventure always seeks to generate new ideas to give life to spaces with style.

THE NEW IBIZA PLACE

The new Ibiza place where you will see EVERYTHING! The island has a new meeting place, the Tatel restaurant. It imitates a clandestine bar from the 1920s, has a large terrace and has a privileged location on the beachfront.

When you visit Ibiza the options of catering and entertainment may seem endless, but there are some that stand out more than others. Tatel Ibiza, which has just opened its doors, seems to be one of the latter. The restaurant, with 1,400 square meters of space and a terrace on the beach, offers traditional Spanish food, luxury cocktails and an interior design of envy.

As if from a past time, as if a girl with a cigarette case and a flapper dress was coming out of a corner, you might actually feel like an Owen Wilson in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris: you go through a door and suddenly you’re in the 20 years. Colors that highlight, much copper and antique furniture give a unique touch to the space that, despite being retro, breathe the most valid. The place is divided into several separate spaces: the bar area, the restaurant area, the terrace – with space for 100 diners – and even a large area perfect for private events. The design of the site comes from the imagination of IlmioDesign, a studio made up of Italians Michele Corbani and Andrea Spada who highlight the presence of noble materials such as stone or wood, along with marine colors and painted glass.

Tatel Ibiza has an enviable location and will open between 19:00 and 3:00. It is on the Platja d’en Bossa, between Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, and will offer live music with many things in common with the one that is famously heard in Ushuaïa (both places belong to Mabel Management) and a gastronomic offer Focused on traditional Spanish food.

PRADA | S/S ’17 AD CAMPAIGN FT JUDE LAW

A Story, the Prada Spring 2017 Men’s campaign, tells a tale of a man that finds his perfect resting place in the dunes amongst nature.

The new campaign video by Willy Vanderperre continues the “escape the 9-to-5” narrative that was first introduced in the 365 Spring 2017 campaign. While the first chapter featured younger faces racing through an office building and escaping to a rooftop, A Story follows a seasoned gentleman that manages to escape the proverbial hamster wheel and find the resting place that he has longed for.

Jude Law stars in the black-and-white short film wandering aimlessly but with a purpose, feeling the sand and straw beneath him while he, as the narrator puts it, “enjoys the company of his thoughts and memories of friends, lovers, and time.”

A Story conveys its message very clearly and captures an audience that may have felt left out by the 365 advertisement. Young Pope star Jude Law is much closer to the Prada man in style, character and lifestyle, and longing for time alone is an issue that a seasoned man can relate to. Amidst work trips, family life, and maintaining one’s health, when does one get a chance to stop, breathe and take a minute to enjoy nature or our living space? Law may not run through office halls or scale a building in A Story, but his solitude in A Story is enviable.

TOM FORD | SPRING 2017

It’s been a busy week chez Tom Ford.

Ford was one of a handful of designers—Burberry’s Christopher Bailey and Tommy Hilfiger among them—to pioneer the see-now-buy-now model when he hosted a starry dinner, runway show, and Leon Bridges performance at the Four Seasons last September. It was the most glamorous New York Fashion Week moment since Beyoncé, Julianne Moore, and Lauren Hutton, et al. walked his debut womenswear catwalk back in 2010. But Ford’s see-now-buy-now experiment is to be short-lived.

He’ll be on the official New York Fashion Week calendar come September, showing not an in-season collection, but a Spring 2018 collection. “It was good to try see-now-buy-now, and I’m glad I did, and eventually that’s how the industry will work,” Ford said. “But right now, the shows and store delivery dates aren’t aligned. We missed crucial weeks of selling time and valuable long-lead press.” He’s also moving his women’s atelier to Los Angeles from London.

Ford wasn’t saying if we can expect a Four Seasons–type experience, but knowing him, the odds are it won’t be your basic run-of-the-mill runway show. “Especially in this moment of designer musical chairs,” he said, “the best thing to be is true to your brand. And I have a brand, I have a following.” For Fall, he’s giving his followers very fitted tailoring (“my customer responds to that. When it’s boxy, it’s not as strong”) colorful, drape-y cocktail numbers with zesty stockings to match, equally bright shearling and fox furs, and high-shine black patent outerwear.
